Team Building Experiences

Figuring out how to best conduct a team building experience for your organization is imperative to creating a fun work culture and building team relationships. While relationships will undoubtedly be formed in the office, there is something about creating a space outside of work that allows a team to let their guard down and enjoy time with one another.
However, some team building events are better than others.
Great team building experiences have a clear purpose.
The best events are distinguished by a proper mindset in planning the experience for your team.
Team building activities that are bound to fail are usually the ones that have little point to begin with. In planning your team’s function, be sure to ask yourself what you want them to get out of it. Events don’t always have to be incredibly structured, but you should have a good idea of what the group will take away from the experience.
Great team building experiences are creative, fun, and meaningful.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and come up with something new for your team to do. While there is nothing wrong with a team cookout or sporting event, these aren’t necessarily memorable experiences.
In the past, my team has done virtual team building exercises. These are always fun, engaging, and challenging. Whether it’s a game or a group puzzle, it allows everyone on the team to contribute their ideas and work together in a unique way.
Great team building experiences engage the whole team.
I believe these experiences are successful when everyone has a chance to participate and get something out of the event. Most teams have some individuals who are always willing to contribute and others who are less inclined to share. We have to create a space that allows everyone a chance to take part and enjoy the experience.
Take some time to figure out the best ways to engage your team. Every team is different and their differences should be taken into account when putting together a memorable experience. Don’t discount the importance of these experiences for your team. When connection, team work, and community are prioritized, organizations thrive and achieve much greater success in the long run.
